WELCOME FROM OUR BASILEUS

Welcome to the online home of the Amazingly Accomplished Alpha Alpha Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. in Baltimore, Maryland.
Since our chartering in 1940, Alpha Alpha Sigma has proudly served the Baltimore community through impactful programs, meaningful partnerships, and a steadfast commitment to Service, Leadership, Sisterhood, and Scholarship. As the first graduate chapter in Maryland and the first three-letter chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., we continue to build upon a legacy of excellence while preparing the next generation of leaders.
Guided by our chapter's 2026–2028 administration theme, "Piece by Piece: Rebuilding, Reconnecting, Reigniting," we are committed to strengthening our sisterhood, expanding our community impact, and creating meaningful opportunities to serve.

I was inducted into Sigma at Morgan State in the fall of 1971. I was the first in my family as a college graduate. Growing up, I never knew or heard about any sorority. My neighborhood friend whom I was in the same class all through middle school, introduced the idea of joining Sigma Gamma Rho with her. She was instrumental in getting fourteen other friends to join with her.
We all had different reasons as we attended some of the events to learn more. Initially, for me, it was belonging to a group where other women my age could be together on campus. It also was great getting to know the alumnae members who were very involved with the sorority and guided us. Then it became having meaningful things to do on campus and in the community for others.
Joining Sigma was like having an extended family to learn so many life skills from the sorors, someone to share your ups and downs with, and developing lifelong friendships. It was great getting to know your sorors parents, siblings, and other friends and family members because they supported our events.
Joining Sigma Gamma Rho was a motivation to do my best academically, strive to be a leader, and achieve future goals.
Now, fifty-one years later, in 2022, I’m thankful for the Sisterhood, Service, and Scholarship that should be the heart of every Sigma. I’m glad I joined, and here I’ll stay until the end of time.

I love Sigma Gamma Rho because, for 100 years, we have demonstrated what Greater Service, Greater Progress can do for Black women. We dare to be different and make a bold impact. Being a part of something bigger than myself, something historical, allows me to assist in pathing the way for women and communities worldwide to have a better life. For me, Sigma is a daily reminder that anything is possible.
